1 Simple Step to let your Search Engine Results Stand Out

June 20th, 2007 at 3:31 am

We all love to rank at the top of search engine results, don’t we? But the fact is only 1 result will appear at the top, and the rest of us need to devise ways to capture the attention of the readers.

This simple tip involves using non-english characters in the <title> tag. Look at the words in the title bar of your browser, and you’ll see the characters ωþτΔ preceding the title of this post.

The objective is to distract the reader enough so that he’d want to click on it.

Nothing deceptive with this practice - just trying to be creative. Note that the characters actually spell ‘wpta’ :)

A note of caution to the brave: Don’t be over-adventurous and stuff your title with too many non-english characters or search engines might think the title’s not written in english!

I’m not sure how effective this method is going to be, but it’s worth a try.
