WordPress Plugin Syntax Checker

Have you ever uploaded and activated a new plugin, only to realize that it contains PHP errors? I have.

Did you find it a hassle to delete that file using your FTP client so that WordPress would start working again? I did.

So I wondered if it’s possible to check the PHP syntax of a WordPress plugin before activating it. That might save me some trouble.

This plugin does just that. You’d need to make sure that ’safe_mode’ is disabled on your server as it runs the ‘php -l plugin-file-name.php’ command to check for syntax errors.

Go over to the Options → Plugin Syntax Checker subpage to test the plugin you want. Not surprisingly, only unactivated plugins are listed there.

I sure hope Plugin Syntax Checker itself doesn’t contain syntax errors
